A square and a garden of flowering trees will be built on the territory of the House of Soviets, Governor of the Kaliningrad Region Anton Alikhanov announced on March 5 on the VKontakte social network.
The governor responded to a publication by a user who expressed the importance of internal tourism flows. According to the user, on the site of the House of Soviets it is necessary to rebuild the royal castle, which will become the main attraction of the city.
“There will be no castle there. “We are already planning to build a park there with a garden of flowering trees.” — wrote Alikhanov. He then added: “There will never be a castle here, that is not the governor’s question”.
Recall that the House of Soviets in Kaliningrad has been dismantled since May 2023. At the beginning of February, the 17th floor had already been dismantled. Completion of the work is scheduled for June 22, 2024.
Let us also recall that in January 2024, the head of the Monument Protection Service of the Kaliningrad region, Evgeny Maslov, reported that it was impossible to restore the Kaliningrad Royal Castle due to modern legislation. According to Maslov, building a castle will essentially mean “the destruction of the original structures and materials” that are preserved underground today.
