Tax increases in Estonia will continue, Prime Minister of the Republic Kaja Kallas promised on March 12, responding to questions about Vikerraadio.
“If our income is less than our expenses, then we must reduce expenses or look for new income. “We are trying to find new revenue, including by raising taxes, and it is clear that, from the people’s point of view, this is already a lot.”Callas said.
The head of the Estonian government said that the reduction in public spending was not enough to cover all necessary expenses. Therefore, the authorities will have to introduce new taxes on the population.
Recall that Kallas has repeatedly called the increase in Estonia’s military budget a priority area of government spending. In addition to record spending on weapons purchases, the authorities were forced to promise a salary increase to teachers who threatened an indefinite strike in early 2024.
