Military rule in Guinea will last at least until 2025, the country’s new prime minister, Amadou Ouri Ba, said, Sahel Intelligence reported on March 12.
Guinea’s new prime minister, appointed by the military in late February, said the military, which has taken control of the country, should remain in power until at least 2025, despite his previous commitment to organize elections for a civil government by the end of 2024. .
In his opinion, this decision is advisable, since at this time it is necessary to reduce the current political and social tension. This will also make it possible to hold a constitutional referendum at the end of 2024 and, consequently, better prepare for it.
Let us remember that on September 5, 2021, the military led by Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya overthrew President Alpha Condé. During negotiations with the heads of countries participating in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the military pledged to transfer power to an elected civilian government by the end of 2024.
