Early this Wednesday, student climate strike activists painted a banner on the roof of the Bank of Portugal with the following message: “Government protects fossil fuel profits = student resistance. End Fossil 2030.”
This was another action to ask students to demand an end to the use of fossil fuels by 2030. According to the statement in which CM had access, fight for 100% renewable and free electricity.
“The government that will be formed in the next few days will not have a plan to destroy the fossils within scientific time frames,” said Leonor Chico, a student and spokesperson for the action.
“The end of fossil fuel use by 2030 is non-negotiable, it is an existential necessity. And we know it’s possible. By next year we could have 100% renewable and free electricity. The obstacles are not technical or scientific. The only obstacle is a political decision to put the profits of mining companies above our lives,” the activist added.
