“Following the statements he made about the importance of social communications, the President does not want to fail to emphasize once again on this day the fundamental role of journalism and free and independent journalists in our democracy, a strong media, with fully known holders with full transparency, respected and worthy professionals, because that where there is no strong social communication, there is no strong democracy,” the president’s official website says.
The Union of Journalists (SJ) has planned a general strike for this Thursday, the first in more than 40 years, against low wages, instability and deteriorating working conditions in the sector.
