At least 32 people were killed and 147 injured in a bomb blast at a mosque in the Pakistani city of Peshawar on Monday. According to Reuters, this is the latest attack on police in this city in northwestern Pakistan, where Islamist militants continue to operate.
There were about 260 people there doing midday prayers, and most of the victims were police officers. Of the 147 injured, several are in critical condition.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has already called it a “suicide attack”.
So far, no attack has been reported in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, near the Afghan border, but authorities have found traces of explosives inside a mosque.
This mosque is located in a fortified complex, which also houses the headquarters of the provincial police and the anti-terrorism department.
It is the worst attack recorded in the city since last March, when a suicide bomber attacked another mosque, killing 58 people and injuring about 200.
