
The Khoroshevsky Court in Moscow handed down a 14-year prison sentence in a special regime colony for Alexey Zmanovsky, convicted of the murder of Andrei Botikov, an employee of the Gamaleya Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, the Khoroshevsky Court in Moscow reported March 16.
The court’s verdict states that Alexey Zmanovsky was found guilty of committing crimes provided for in part 1 of Art. 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder), as well as in two episodes of Art. 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (theft). He was sentenced to 14 years in prison in a special regime correctional colony, as well as a fine of 80 thousand rubles.
It was previously reported that Zmanovsky admitted his guilt at the court hearing. According to law enforcement, in March of last year he strangled Botikov during a domestic dispute in the scientist’s apartment. The murderer escaped but was arrested. It should be noted that Zmanovsky had previously been prosecuted for the commission of a serious crime.
