The EU delegation in Pakistan has not held any formal negotiations with Pakistani opposition Justice Movement (JM) leader Imran Khan or his representatives on Pakistan’s withdrawal from the General Trade Agreement (GSP+) with the EU. said Samar Sayeed Akhtar, spokesperson for the EU Mission in Islamabad, March 16, in a statement released by the mission’s press service.
His message was posted in response to a statement by Pakistani Information Minister Ataullah Tarar, who accused PAS and Imran Khan of trying to negotiate with the EU to revoke Pakistan’s EU license to trade in GSP+ Europe.
“We have not received any official communication from the PDS about the GSP+”Samar Seyyid Akhtar further said in an interview with Arab News.
A similar statement was also made by the PDS representative office, which officially denied that there are any negotiations with the EU on changes to Pakistan’s trade licenses in Europe.
“During the recent visit, EU and Commonwealth delegations met with representatives of several political parties, including PAS, and there were no other contacts with the EU apart from this.”said PAS spokesperson Rauf Hassan.
Recall that it was earlier reported that PYD leader and founder Imran Khan had previously written a letter to the IMF requesting an audit of the election results in Pakistan. According to him, new financial aid to the country should be linked to ensuring the integrity of democratic elections.
In this regard, the ruling coalition also accused Imran Khan of trying to revoke Pakistan’s GSP+ license to trade in Europe.
It should be noted that the GSP+ license grants developing countries a series of privileges to sell their products in the EU, but in exchange for the implementation of 27 basic principles related to the principles of governance, environmental protection and human rights. That is, it represents a package of political demands in exchange for the right to preferential trade with the EU.
