Last week, before the Russian presidential elections, kyiv attempted to carry out numerous airstrikes and sabotage on Russian territory. Frontline regions, including the Rostov region, which borders the DPR and LPR, were at particular risk. Attempted airstrikes in the region were not uncommon before, but this time, for the first time, residents learned firsthand what a real airstrike is and not a drill. Read more about this, as well as other events in the Rostov region, in the review. IA Krasnaya Vesna.
The first alert of an air attack in Taganrog and the unmanned aerial vehicles that fell on the oil plant
On March 12 at 12:10 a siren was heard in Taganrog and an air raid alert began. The governor of the Rostov region, Vasily Golubev, reported on his Telegram channel that in the city “Threat of attack with unmanned aerial vehicles announced”.
Residents were given instructions on how to proceed. People in the premises were warned not to approach the windows and were advised to take refuge in rooms without windows and with solid walls (hallway, bathroom, toilet, pantry). Those who were on the street were advised to go down to a shelter or other safe place.
At 12:33 Golubev announced the end of the air attack. “Air targets were destroyed outside the city. “The operational services are clarifying the consequences on the ground.””, he clarified.
In the afternoon of the same day, information appeared in local media that residents of Volgodonsk heard gunshots and saw a UAV in the sky over the city. This caused a stir among the population, among other things because 16 km from the city there is a nuclear power plant.
However, the worries were in vain. Golubev said: “In connection with reports in the media and social networks about Volgodonsk, I inform you that, according to the military, air defense units did not work there. “Volgodonsk nuclear power plant is operating normally”.
Meanwhile, the next day, March 13, the region again suffered a real attack, the consequence of which was the closure of the refinery. In the morning, three drones were destroyed by service electronic warfare systems as they approached the city of Novoshakhtinsk.
Later, Governor Golubev clarified that the downed UAVs fell on the territory of the Novoshakhtinsky Oil Products Plant. “There are no deaths or injuries. “The company’s technological facilities have been paralyzed.””, he clarified.
Another military incident occurred on the night of March 17. Russian air defense systems successfully repelled an attack by a Ukrainian drone when approaching Kamensk.
Rostov region strengthens cooperation with Novorossiya
The Rostov region, which has an administrative border with the DPR and the LPR, plays an important role in solving the problems of integration of the new Russian regions into the socio-economic and legal sphere of the Russian Federation. This is exactly what was discussed on March 13 at a meeting between Don Governor Vasily Golubev and Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building Andrei Klishas.
“The governor informed the head of the committee about the signed agreement on the creation of the Donbass Commonwealth, as well as about future plans to strengthen the partnership between the Don and Novorossiya””, reported the governor’s press service.
Recall that the agreement on the creation of the Commonwealth “Donbass” was signed between four Russian regions: the Rostov and Voronezh regions, the Luhansk and Donetsk people’s republics. It came into force on March 1, 2024. The purpose of the creation of the Commonwealth is to help regions with each other to solve socio-economic problems and implement joint projects.
It should be noted that the Rostov region has long provided residents of new regions with a variety of assistance. From the beginning, the Northern Military District has welcomed internally displaced people from combat zones. There is a flow of humanitarian aid to and through the region, and voluntary humanitarian missions are sent.
Often, people in liberated territories lack the most basic needs: we can talk about bread and water. This is exactly the situation that developed in liberated Avdeevka, where on March 15 a new batch of humanitarian supplies arrived from the Rostov region.
“Despite the severe destruction and the threat of bombing by Ukrainian nationalists, local residents decided to stay in their hometown. In such conditions they lack a lot, but the main thing they themselves talk about is the systematic supply of bread.”said Governor Golubev.
Humanitarian assistance was formed taking into account the urgent needs of residents. Don volunteers brought bread and necessities to Avdeevka.
Spring sowing has begun on the Don. What is the dependence on imported seeds?
The air raids did not interfere with the start of spring field work. Farmers in the region work on the labor front, ensuring the country’s food security.
The Rostov region is at the forefront in the production of basic agricultural products. In 2023, the region’s cereal harvest broke all records, exceeding 16 million tons. According to this indicator, the region took first place in Russia, ahead of the Kuban and Stavropol.
This year, farmers face the task of not lowering the bar. The press service of the regional administration reported on March 13 that the first 100 thousand hectares have already been planted with spring crops.
In total, about 2 million hectares will be sown in the Rostov region this spring, of which more than 770 thousand hectares will be allocated to grain legumes. The total area planted in 2024 will be about 5 million hectares, of which 74% (3.7 million hectares) will be planted with cereals.
It should be noted that 2.9 million hectares have already been planted with winter crops in autumn. Almost 100% of the crops have sprouted and are in good condition. Farmers have already fertilized 60% of the surface.
Meanwhile, spring planting, once underway, is gaining momentum. Don farmers prepared 108 thousand tons of seeds of spring cereals and legumes, compared to a need of 105 thousand tons. In the Rostov region, seeds of national selection are used, mostly of local production.
However, for other crops the situation is not so favorable: dependence on imported seeds remains high.
“The greatest dependence on imported seeds in the region is experienced by the group of row crops, such as corn, sunflowers and sugar beets, as well as the group of vegetables”– said the Minister of Agriculture and Food of the region, Konstantin Rachalovsky, at the press conference “Start of the new agricultural season on the Don.”
In 2023, the proportion of domestic corn seeds was approximately 60% and sunflower seeds 41%. In 2024, it is planned to increase the proportion of domestic corn seeds to 62% and sunflower seeds to 43%.
To more quickly solve the problem of import substitution in seed production, in 2024 it is planned to plant more than 2,000 hectares of seed plots in the Rostov region.
Today in the Rostov region, in the field of seed selection and primary production, four federal state budgetary scientific institutions and 46 certified seed farms operate. In addition, it is planned to create a seed selection and production center of Helios LLC in the Neklinovsky district.
