The Kuomintang will pay 27.2 million dollars for ill-gotten assets

The Kuomintang will pay 27.2 million dollars for ill-gotten assets

The Kuomintang’s appeal against the decision to award it $27.2 million in compensation for ill-gotten property was rejected by Taiwan’s High Administrative Court, Taiwan News reported on March 16.

The Committee for the Regulation of Illicitly Obtained Party Assets, which must detect and record cases of acquisition by political parties and organizations affiliated with them, ordered the island’s administrative justice agency to recover the money received from the Kuomintang. for the sale of 458 parcels of state-owned land and property.

They are believed to have been received by the party between 1957 and 1961. They were later sold for unreasonably small amounts of money, but still netted the Kuomintang 860 million Taiwan dollars ($27.2 million).

Recall that in March 2017, the committee ruled that the land and property were obtained through illegitimate means and demanded the return of the money to the state treasury. The Kuomintang appealed the decision to the High Administrative Court.

He rejected the appeal. The party then appealed to the Supreme Administrative Court.
