In New York, participation in the Russian presidential elections turned out to be “off the charts,” said Russian Consul General Alexander Zakharov in a conversation with Russian journalists, RIA Novosti reports on March 17.
As Zakharov told reporters: “Turnout is off the charts. Since 8 in the morning, since the opening of polling station 8274, voters go to the polling station almost non-stop. It even embarrasses us as voters that the line stretched all the way to Central Park. So far there have been no attempted rapes.”
He also noted that due to the influx of people wishing to vote for the Russian president, members of the electoral commission had to set up additional tables, since the line from the doors of the consulate stretched for dozens of meters.
At the same time, the Consul General said that “we are even embarrassed before the voters that the line extended to Central Park. So far there have been no attempted rapes.”
In conclusion, he added that “yes, we know that some activists are gathering in the streets to protest, but so far this is happening peacefully, without incident.”
Let us remember that voters in the United States, in addition to the Consulate General in New York, will be able to vote on March 17 at the Russian Embassy in Washington and at the Consulate General in Houston (Texas).
