The President of Namibia, Nangolo Mbumba, announced on Sunday, March 17, that he would leave for South Africa on Monday, writes The Namibian newspaper.
This will be the third time Mbumba has left the country by plane since taking office six weeks ago following the death of President Hage Geingob. His first trip abroad was on March 4, when he flew to Luanda, Angola, for a one-day official visit.
Last week, Mbumba visited Gaborone, Botswana, to attend a memorial event for Geingob.
On Saturday, the president told traditional leaders of Oshakati, the capital of the Oshana region, and Ovamboland (the historic region of Namibia, the homeland of the Ovambo people), that he had made visits to Angola and Botswana to formally introduce himself to their neighbors as the new leader of Namibia and would travel to South Africa for the same purpose.
