Russian President Vladimir Putin welcomed this Monday the “homecoming” of the occupied territories in Ukraine before crowds gathered in Moscow’s Red Square following his victory in last weekend’s presidential elections.
The 71-year-old Russian president attended a concert on Moscow’s famous square to mark the 10th anniversary of the annexation of Ukraine’s Crimea peninsula, the first act of conflict between Moscow and Kiev.
According to Agence France Presse (AFP), during his first public appearance after winning the election, he was greeted by the crowd with chants of “Russia!” Russia!”, Putin appeared on stage accompanied by three of his presidential opponents.
