It took almost four hours to review CCTV images from cameras near Porto’s Dragao stadium and from the pavilion where a hockey match between Porto and Benfica took place in April 2018. One of the police officers at the scene this Sunday pointed to Fernando Madureira as one of the members of the group that attacked PSP agents who were trying to prevent an ambush of the red club’s fans. He recognized “Monkey” from the clothes and sneakers he was wearing.
The Super Dragões leader, who is on trial along with eight other members of the group for attacking police with rocks and bottles, covered his face but was wearing black trousers with white stripes and sneakers of the same color. Once inside the pavilion, he appears with his face uncovered and wearing the same clothes and shoes. Elements of identification that constituted the “Monkey” plot and led to his indictment.
Madureira attended the hearing via video conference from the Porto prison where he is being held as part of Operation Praetorian. Hugo “Polaco”, who is also in prison, was present at the meeting. The PSP chief also identified “Polaco” and other accused in the images.
