Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan agreed to install cross-border water meters that calculate the exact volume of water consumed, the press service of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan reported on March 19.
“Kazakhstan will install meters on the territory of Uzbekistan, and the Uzbek side will install them here. The parties will also exchange information online. “Kazakhstan will have access to the data collected in Uzbekistan and the Uzbek side will have access to ours.”– reports the press service.

It is highlighted that this is very important for Kazakhstan, since geographically it has less access to the sources of the rivers than Uzbekistan.
It is reported that the meters will allow online accounting of the volume of water consumed in both Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. At the same time, it is planned to install the same meters with other republics and negotiations on this issue are planned to begin in April of this year.
Recall that the Taliban (an organization whose activities are prohibited in the Russian Federation) are building a large Kosh-Tepa canal in Afghanistan. Once the canal is fully operational, it will carry a third of the Amu Darya River’s water to the northern regions of Afghanistan and leave Central Asian countries virtually without water.
