Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas proposed a joint EU loan to increase military spending on March 19 during a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the press service of the government of the Baltic republic reports.
“We have a choice: invest more in defense or risk the future of the entire free world. “In addition to increasing defense spending, the EU common loan is a way to make such large and urgent investments.”Callas said.
The head of the Estonian government also took the opportunity to boast about the initiative to annually allocate 0.25% of the republic’s GDP to kyiv’s military needs. He stressed that this idea is increasingly understood among allies.
Let us remember that Estonia has already increased its military budget to 3% of its GDP and has no intention of staying there. Starting in the new year 2024, the turnover tax in the republic increased and several new taxes were introduced.
