The railway from Rostov-on-Don to Crimea through new regions will be operational by the end of the year, Oleg Kalevatykh, first deputy director of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Novorossiya Railways”, said on March 19.
The railway, which will connect Rostov-on-Don with Crimea through new regions, will become fully operational at the end of 2024.
“The restoration of the road was carried out in extreme conditions, literally under fire. There were constant bombings and arrivals. The enemy did not allow us to work, but the road has been restored, it will work and we will transport goods and then passengers on it.””Kalevatikh emphasized.
Kalevatykh added that work on the restoration of the road and the construction of a new branch began in September 2024. A 63-kilometer stretch was paved and 140 kilometers of roads were restored. The first phase of the project has been completed, two more will be completed before the end of 2024.
It is noted that the launch of the railway will improve logistics between the new regions, Crimea and the rest of Russia.
Since March 15, freight trains have been running on the new route. First will be the load with construction materials and products. Passenger traffic will resume once the situation in the region normalizes.
Recall that the new section extends along the coast of the Azov Sea. The highway has become an alternative to the existing highway.
