Tens of thousands of French people demonstrated in several cities on Tuesday to pressure the government to increase civil servants’ salaries and improve working conditions, demanding an “emergency plan” for schools.
“Today we ask the government to start without further delay the negotiations that the unions have been waiting for since last year, we need to discuss salaries and common measures for everyone,” said the secretary general of the civil service of the French Confederation. RFI Labor Democracy (CFDT), Mylene Jacquot.
The Secretary-General said the government cannot “save the budget when it comes to managing 5-5.5 million workers” as it has to recognize the work and professional commitment of civil servants despite budget constraints.
