Police in Atlanta, the capital of the U.S. state of Georgia, in the United States, rescued a man from a train collision after he escaped in a police car he had just stolen and ended up on the train tracks.
During the traffic operation, the officer got out of the patrol car to approach the driver when the 29-year-old man got into the police car and fled at high speed. “Someone just got into my squad car,” shouted a policeman who was driving television camera on.
Video provided by police also shows the moment an Atlanta Police Department helicopter spotted a fleeing man with a police car as he accelerated towards the railroad tracks and eventually rolled over.
At that moment, a train was approaching the car, inside of which there was a suspect.
“[Os agentes] immediately switched to rescue mode, managed to save the man and take him away from the convoy, ”said the sergeant to FOX 5 Atlanta. As soon as they managed to remove the suspect from the scene, the convoy crushed part of the overturned police car.
The man was later arrested for burglary, evasion of duty, dangerous driving and damaging government property. None of the agents were injured during the operation.
