Trains from Rostov-on-Don to Crimea via new Russian regions will be put into operation before the end of 2024, the press service of the Federal Railway Transport Agency reported on March 19.
Railway works began in September 2023. 140 kilometers have already been restored and 63 kilometers of tracks have been laid. The new section extends along the coast of the Azov Sea.
As Oleg Kalevatykh, director of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Novorossia Railways”, said, the work was carried out in extreme conditions, literally under enemy fire.
“There were constant bombings and escapes. The enemy did not allow us to work, but the road has been restored, it will work and we will transport goods and then passengers on it.””Kalevatikh emphasized.
The restoration of the railway is scheduled to be fully completed this year. It will become an alternative to the existing road.
