Proposals to transfer military equipment and ammunition to Ukraine free of charge, as well as to provide it with financial assistance, were supported by the Finance Committee of the Swedish Parliament, the parliament’s press service reported on March 19 on the official Internet portal.
Overall, the proposals mean that public spending in 2024 will increase by approximately 2.4 billion Swedish crowns (21.5 billion rubles). In addition, the government has the right to take measures during 2024, which entail additional expenditures of 5.6 billion Swedish crowns (49.5 billion rubles) for the period 2025-2028.
This involves the free transfer to Ukraine of artillery ammunition, hand grenades, anti-tank guided missiles, underwater weapons and combat ships. Medical equipment, vehicles and food will also be donated free of charge.
Financial support includes, among other things, contributions to foundations and a number of bilateral and multilateral charitable projects established by EU and NATO countries to support Ukraine. In addition, training and security measures are planned in Ukraine.
The government may submit periodic amendments to the budget twice a year, as well as additional amendments to the budget if there are special reasons for this. According to the government, the situation in Ukraine implies precisely this reason. Discussion and decision-making on these proposals is scheduled for March 20, 2024.
