This Wednesday, the United States congratulated Indonesian President-elect Prabowo Subianto, saying he hopes to forge a “close partnership” between the two countries following his inauguration in October.
“We sincerely congratulate Indonesian President-elect Prabowo Subianto on his victory and once again applaud the Indonesian people for their high voter turnout and their commitment to democracy and the rule of law,” the head of state said. Secretary of North American Diplomacy Antony Blinken in a statement released by the State Department.
In the note, the official notes that the United States and Indonesia “celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations based on democracy and pluralism.”
