According to the National Union of Journalists (SNJ), Mozambican journalist and former director of information at Television of Mozambique (TVM), Simiane Ponguane, died this Wednesday after a long illness.
Ponguane died at Maputo Central Hospital, where he had been hospitalized due to liver cancer diagnosed almost three years ago, SNJ said in a statement.
“Simião Ponguane, with his characteristic style of communication and, in particular, interviewing, marked an entire generation of Mozambican journalism, especially television,” the document says.
Ponguane was born in 1965 in the province of Inhambane in southern Mozambique, and in 1988 he joined TVM, still in its experimental period, where he served in various roles, notably as editor-in-chief and director of information, and as a correspondent for the public channel in South Africa.
