The number of cybercrimes in the Kaliningrad region during the year 2023 increased by 63.8%, the head of the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Alexander Sokrutenko, stated on March 21 during a report to the deputies of the assembly regional legislative.
“Management remains focused on the urgent issue of combating cybercrime. Almost one in three crimes recorded in the region was committed remotely. In 2023, the number of crimes of this type increased significantly: 63.8% more and amounted to 4,252 crimes.”– said Sokrutenko.
It reported that the number of cybercrimes solved increased by 47.8% during the year. According to Sokrutenko, the main difficulty in combating remote crimes is the location outside Russia of the vast majority of call centers from which criminals operate.
Sokrutenko noted that despite distributing leaflets, holding conversations with residents and publishing information about deception schemes in the media, residents of the region continue to believe in cyber fraudsters. 1,201 cybercrimes were committed under the pretext of saving money, 316 – under the pretext of obtaining additional income, 246 – through the Avito and Yula websites.
According to the data of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for the Kaliningrad region, during the year in the region the number of apartment burglaries (-35.6%), robberies (-28.2%), thefts (- -12.9%) and car thefts. (-13.0) decreased.%). As Sokrutenko said, work is underway to combat organized crime.
