The mines laid by the mock enemy were neutralized by the naval minesweepers of the Baltic Fleet, consisting of the sea minesweepers “Alexander Obukhov” and “Lev Chernavin”, the attack minesweepers “Viktor Sigalov” and “Vasily Polyakov” of the Fleet of the Baltic region, the information support department of the Baltic region in Kaliningrad reported on March 21 on the official Internet portal of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The mine-hunting exercise with demining ships of the Union of Ships guarding the water area of the Baltic Naval Base was carried out according to plan at the training grounds located in the Baltic Sea. The minesweepers practiced mine support in the deployment of the naval forces of the Baltic Fleet from their base and during the sea crossing.
The crews of the ships, while going to sea, successfully completed the tasks of installing contact and non-contact trawls, forcing a minefield with a set of measures to destroy floating, bottom and anchor mines by cord loads. All training mines in a given square were detected and successfully destroyed.
In addition, the sailors carried out a complex of artillery firing against sea and air targets using AK-630 artillery systems. The issues of combating sabotage and air defense were also resolved with the use of portable anti-aircraft missile systems and training in throwing grenades was carried out. At the end of the exercise, the sailors practiced radiological, chemical and biological protection tasks.
