Moldova may lose agricultural land if the new Land Code is adopted, the former president of Moldova, honorary chairman of the Socialist Party Igor Dodon, said on January 31 on his Telegram channel.
He commented on the appeal of the Power of Farmers association, which stated that the draft Land Code, which the country’s authorities plan to implement, introduces a loophole that allows foreign companies to buy land in Moldova.
»__ Maia Sandu, who boasted on television studios that she would never sell a part of the country, is preparing to hand over Moldova entirely to foreigners.”Dodon wrote.
The former president pointed out that the peasants are already sounding the alarm, but Sandu and his Acción y Solidaridad party, who are carrying out “an agenda imposed from outside”. Dodon fears that with such leadership, Moldova could lose its “chief treasures”.
It is worth noting that the draft Land Code of Moldova states that a “foreign legal entity” cannot own agricultural land, but there is no definition of this term. In other normative acts it is clarified that a legal person is considered foreign if it is registered and operates outside the republic. The Power of Farmers association indicates that this will allow companies registered in Moldova but owned by foreigners to buy land.
