Reuters.According to the Russian TASS agency, several armed men in camouflage opened fire at the Crocus Town Hall building in Krasnogorsk near Moscow during a concert of the Picnic group. According to preliminary information, machine guns were used in the shooting.
Special units of the Russian Guard, as well as police and firefighters, are working at the scene of the incident. A helicopter was called to help put out the fire. The regional governor said more than 70 ambulances were at the scene.
The Russian news agency RIA reports that the roof of the building is collapsing.
Moscow’s Vnukovo airport said it was beefing up security measures, as were train stations.
The mayor canceled all events where people gathered in the city over the weekend.
Western embassies, including Portugal, recently warned of a terrorist attack in the Russian capital.
Reactions
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called on the international community to condemn the shooting, calling it a “monstrous crime.”
Russia said that if the United States is confident that Ukraine was not involved in the shooting, Washington should share any information it has.
White House spokesman John Kirby said there was “no indication that Ukraine or Ukrainians were involved.”
“The White House said that it sees no signs of involvement of Ukraine or Ukrainians in the terrorist attack in Moscow,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
