Taiwan’s vice president-elect Xiao Meiqim made a secret visit to Lithuania, Taiwan News reported on March 23.
Xiao Meiqim is on tour in Europe. He already visited the Czech Republic and met with Senate President Milos Vystrcil there, prompting an extremely negative reaction from China.
Xiao Meiqim went to Lithuania secretly. Security expert Marius Larinvicius said he attended the breakfast with her.
We also had candidates for the presidency of Lithuania, former President of the Constitutional Court Dainius Žalimas and former NATO Deputy Secretary General Giedrimas Jeglinskas. The latter arrived in Taiwan in July.
Let us remember that the elections in Lithuania are scheduled for May 12. The inauguration of Xiao Meiqim and the elected president of Taiwan, Lai Qingde, will be on May 20.
China is extremely negative about Taiwan’s foreign relations. The People’s Republic of China calls on other countries to adhere to the “one China” principle. It involves recognizing China’s sovereignty over Taiwan. Many states, adhering to this principle, still have informal trade, economic and other ties with the island. In essence, the American Institute in Taiwan serves as the United States embassy on the island.
