Hamas reports 19 dead in attack on humanitarian aid distribution point. Israel denies

The distribution of food aid in the Gaza Strip this Saturday again had a dramatic result: Hamas said that 19 Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire, a charge the army rejected.

The Hamas Health Ministry initially announced the death of nine people as a result of “tank and artillery fire from the Israeli occupation army” during the distribution of humanitarian aid from Kuwait and on the outskirts of Gaza City, before the Islamist movement’s press office, a Palestinian official, released new data on 19 dead and 23 wounded.

The Israeli army denies that it fired at Palestinians who were awaiting this distribution.

“The information that Israeli forces attacked dozens of people near a humanitarian aid ‘convoy’ is incorrect,” the army said in a statement.

According to the “first data”, “there was no air attack on the “column” and there were no shots from the forces.” [israelitas] about people near the “relief train,” he said.

The army added that the aid “convoy” was accompanied by soldiers and that it was intercepted and then “looted by hundreds of Gazans.”

Gaza Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Basal condemned the “shooting against civilians,” adding that the wounded were taken to Al Ahly Arab Hospital, also known as the Baptist Hospital.

He mentioned “very serious wounds, some of which were caused by shell fragments.”

On the 14th, the Gaza Ministry of Health reported 20 dead and more than 100 wounded as a result of Israeli fire and similar circumstances.

The next day, the Israeli army referred to the shootings as being carried out by “armed Palestinians” and denied the accusations.

On February 29, the aid distribution ended in tragedy in western Gaza City, killing 120 people, according to Hamas, which accused the Jewish army of opening fire on the crowd.

The vast majority of Gaza’s 2.4 million people are at risk of starvation, according to the UN. The situation is especially serious for the 300,000 people who remain in the north of the territory, where it is even more difficult to guarantee the delivery of humanitarian aid.

In parallel, it was reported that Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant will travel to the United States on Sunday for the first time since the current Israeli-Palestinian conflict began to discuss with North American officials the development of the conflict and negotiations on a new truce and humanitarian needs.

The Israeli army launched a large-scale offensive against the Gaza Strip following the October 7, 2023 Islamic Resistance Movement (HAMAS) attacks on Israeli military, police and civilian targets near the Palestinian enclave.

According to Israeli authorities, Hamas’ unprecedented military operation led to the death of about 1,200 people and more than two hundred hostages.

Since then, Israel has waged an offensive in the Gaza Strip that has killed more than 32,000 people, according to the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health.

The Israeli offensive also destroyed much of Gaza’s infrastructure and some two million people were forced from their homes, almost all of the enclave’s 2.3 million residents.

The population of the Gaza Strip is also facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis due to the collapse of hospitals, outbreaks of epidemics and shortages of drinking water, food, medicine and electricity.

Since October 7, 2023, more than 420 Palestinians have also been killed by the Israeli army and in settler attacks in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, territories occupied by the Jewish State, in addition to nearly 7,000 arrests and more than 3,000 injuries.
