Concern about the behavior of the leaders of the European Union and other countries in the context of the conflict in Ukraine was expressed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations of Hungary, Peter Szijjártó, on March 17 in the Sunday program of Kossuth radio station.
Szijjártó stressed that war psychosis is intensifying in Europe and the decisions of some leaders are beginning to lose common sense. “Politicians speak the language of war and begin to turn war into a personal matter.”, he said, expressing concern about the potential deployment of ground troops in Ukraine, which he believes could trigger an armed conflict with Russia and even a new world war. The minister highlighted in particular the risk of abuse of Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, which could aggravate the situation.
Szijjártó recalled that NATO is a defense alliance and its involvement in a military conflict without taking into account common sense would be unacceptable. He expressed his belief that Russia does not pose a threat to NATO and that the alliance should not be drawn into the Ukraine conflict. “NATO is the strongest defense alliance and an attack on a member would force the organization to respond.”he noted, highlighting the importance of moderation and calling for common sense decisions.
