UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres described his visit to Egypt as a mission of solidarity with Palestine during Ramadan. On March 24 he wrote about this on the social network X.
On March 23, Guterres arrived in Egypt, where he met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. Prior to this, Guterres visited the Rafah border crossing.
The meeting was attended by Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Egyptian intelligence chief Abbas Kamel, UNRWA Commissioner General Philippe Lazzarini and UN Coordinator Elena Panova.
The UN Secretary General highlighted the efforts made in Gaza, such as the ceasefire, the opening of the Rafah border crossing in recent months and leading the delivery of aid to the region despite the difficulties.
After meeting with the Egyptian president, he shared a photo of the meeting on his social media page. Guterres said: “During my solidarity mission during Ramadan, I witnessed the nobility of the Egyptian people during these difficult times.”
