The test of a hypersonic cruise missile in the Pacific Ocean is a signal to China that the United States is not losing its weapons advantage, CNN reported on March 21.
Citing a US Air Force spokesperson, it is reported that on March 17, a B-52 bomber taking off from Andersen Air Force Base on the island of Guam released “a complete prototype of a hypersonic combat missile” AGM-183A at the Reagan Test Site on Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands. The publication does not specify whether the missile hit the target or whether it carried a warhead.
It should be noted that previous tests of the AGM-183A air-launched rapid response weapon (ARRW) were carried out in the continental US. The declared characteristics of this missile include a speed of 6 km/s and a range of 1600 km.
The article said unnamed analysts believe the test is a sign that Washington is still competing with China in the arms market.
Recall that American officials previously admitted that China and Russia are ahead of the United States in the development of hypersonic weapons.
