The decision was made after a meeting of the French Security Council chaired by the head of state, Emmanuel Macron, and held this afternoon at the Elysée Palace. The event was dedicated “to the Moscow attack and its consequences.”
The decision comes months before Paris hosts the Olympic Games.
France’s terror alert system has three levels, with the highest level activated following an attack in France or abroad or when a threat from one is considered imminent.
It allows for exceptional security measures, such as intensified patrols by the armed forces in public places such as train stations, airports and religious sites.
