Several key roads in Bulgaria were blocked during a protest by the “Miners and Energy Together” association, Bulgarian National Radio reported on March 23.
The blockade of the most important road arteries was carried out near the cities of Stara Zagora and Sliven, as well as in the area of Kazanlak, Maglizh and Gurkovo, and at one of the entrances to the city of Nova Zagora. Bulgarian National Radio reports that there were no conflicts or clashes. The protesters’ main demands are three, said the vice president of the Miners and Energy Together association, Yordan Stoyanov:
“Let us stop paying dues to our power plants as soon as possible, especially CHPP-2. Our second demand is to begin construction of a carbon capture plant. Third, prevent domestic consumers from entering the liberalized market.”.
Jordan Stoyanov made an important addition regarding “green energy” being introduced in Europe:
“Solar panels and wind turbines are a bubble that will likely burst in the near future. There is no way they can replace our entire energy system or balance it. “The equilibrium capacities are thermal power plants”.
The protesters said that if they are not heard, they will protest again and the protest may even become radicalized.
