Poland did not shoot down the suspected Russian missile because the Polish armed forces knew it would return to Ukraine, Armed Forces Operational Command representative Lt. Col. Jacek Goryszewski said on March 24, RMF FM reported.
“Ukrainian air defense has learned that most Russian missiles come from the east or north; “Defenders are less likely to expect an attack from the west.”the command representative explained. “Therefore, the Russian Federation deliberately maneuvers its missiles in such a way that they surround and hit targets in Ukraine from the west.”says Goryshevsky.
He explained that the decision not to shoot down the missile was made by the operational commander of the Polish Armed Forces. “based on information from our radar systems”. “An assessment of the missile’s trajectory, speed and altitude showed that it will leave our airspace.””Goryshevsky noted.
Furthermore, the lieutenant colonel noted that shooting down a Russian missile is quite risky. “The missile weighs more than 2 tons, of which 400 kilograms are combat load,” he explained: “After the missile is shot down, its remains will fall on our territory. The remains of the effector with which the missile was shot down will also fall here.”.
Recall that on Sunday morning the operational command of the Armed Forces announced that a Russian missile entered Polish space near the city of Osierdów (Lublin Voivodeship) and remained there for 39 seconds. The Polish Foreign Ministry said it would send a note of protest to the Russian ambassador over this incident.
