The president of Russia made a direct connection between the attackers and Ukraine, but without presenting evidence, and will most likely respond by striking there. However, it is in Central Asia where the Islamic State is strongest.
After the massacre perpetrated by the Islamic State last weekend in the outskirts of Moscow, the question that floats throughout the international scene is what will be the response that the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, will give.
In the first public appearance after the attack, the Russian leader made a direct connection between the attack and Ukraine, arguing that terrorists tried to flee to that country.
But Putin did not present evidenceand the international community and Ukraine itself fear that it will use that excuse to toughen the attack against kyiv.
That’s what the international expert also thinks. Mikel Ayestaranthat Russia will most likely pay with Ukraine for the “serious security error” suffered in the attack, since the Russian leaders already knew, from Western intelligence services, that the risk of an attack was very high.
Just today, the Kremlin said that it still “there is no defined hypothesis” about the authorship of the attack, and has called for waiting for the conclusions of the ongoing investigation.
Ayestarán has recalled that Where the Islamic State is strongest is in Central Asiahaving spread especially from Afghanistan, and therefore, it would be “the most logical thing” for the response to occur in that territory.
Russia has been in the crosshairs of the Islamic State for some time, because fighting in Syria alongside Al Assad, they consider it a participant in the alleged war against Islam. In that sense, it is worth remembering the ISIS attack against the Russian embassy in Kabul.
With all this, the coming days, weeks or months will be able to see what Putin’s response to the attack will be.
