Aveiro City Council has reopened access to the Eclusas Bridge and completed the first phase of reconstruction of Rua do Sal, a municipal source said on Monday.
“Aveiro City Council informs that Rua do Sal is open to traffic in one direction between the Rotonda das Piramides and the Eclusas Bridge,” the press release said.
According to a municipal source, traffic will only flow in the east-west direction, but this is a temporary measure as ongoing work does not allow the street to be opened in both directions.
“City qualifying work between the Rotunda das Piramides and the Eclusas Bridge continues as planned, with the aim of expanding the profile of the highway,” the press release explains.
The project also includes a change to the original layout to make it compatible with the reclassification of the Troncallada Maritime Eco-Museum and the relocation of the entrance, which are also underway.
The widening of the road profile “will allow safe access to the new roundabout west of the viaduct under Highway (A) 25, which is critical for access to the city, the highway and nearby attractions.”
“This project is fundamental for road access to Rossio and the Beira Mar area, which will mainly be carried out through the Eclus Bridges and the São João Bridges,” the note emphasizes.
According to the municipality, this road channel “will also be fundamental for managing access to the lands of Antiga Lota de Aveiro.”
The municipal investment amounts to two million euros in two projects: the retraining of Rua do Sal and the relocation of the Ecomuseum of the Troncallada Navy.
