A body in a high state of decomposition was discovered this Sunday afternoon next to a fishing boat in Chavien, Melgassoux.
According to the National Maritime Authority, in a statement issued following the GNR alert at around 16:30 about the presence of a body on the banks of the international section of the Minho River), elements of the Location Command from the Caminha Marine Police, as well as members of the NNP and Melgasu volunteer firefighters.
Upon arrival of emergency services, a health official was called and pronounced dead, the body was collected and taken to the legal medical office in Viana do Castelo. According to Correio da Mañan, given the high degree of decomposition, it was not possible to determine with certainty whether the body was a man or a woman, but all indications were that it would be that of a man, taking into account the clothes he was wearing.
The incident was recorded by NCIS, which is now conducting an investigation.
