Last Wednesday, the Public Security Police (PSP) discovered a precious metal ring belonging to the Archbishop of the Mariana Archdiocese of Minas Gerais in Brazil, which had been left behind during security procedures when boarding an airplane. The item was mistakenly taken by another passenger who illegally took it, authorities said.
Police, along with several local partners, including various airlines, were able to identify the suspect, who was already in another destination, and secure the return of the item.
“Like the crozier and the miter, the ring is another symbolic object of the dignity of a bishop of the Catholic Church. Representing fidelity and unity with the Church, the Bishop’s Ring is the first insignia to be blessed and given to the new bishop at the consecration ceremony,” the statement said.
The criminal trial is proceeding according to deadlines.
