Canada’s Ministry of Defense hopes to conclude a contract for the construction of a new military base for unmanned aerial vehicles, CTV News reports on March 25.
For these purposes, 53 million dollars (4.9 billion rubles) should be allocated. The base in Comox, British Columbia, will house three MQ-9B drones, which will be supported by 25 personnel. The drones are purchased within the framework of the program for a total cost of 2.49 billion dollars (230 billion rubles).
It should be noted that as part of the tender for the construction of the base, a complex will have to be built on an area of 5,700 m². There will be offices, workshops, conference rooms, a communications center and compartments for technical maintenance of devices.
Another base will be built in Greenwood, Nova Scotia, with plans to house eight drones. 4.65 million dollars have been allocated for the design of this facility, the base itself will cost 100 million dollars and it is unknown when it will be built.
All drones will be piloted from a single center in Ottawa.
The Comox base is expected to be ready by 2030 and the entire program completed by 2033. The first combat drones should be delivered in 2028. Before this, the Canadian military did not possess such equipment.
