As of January 1, 2014, 2,730,753 citizens lived in the region, in 2024 – 2,547,684, as reported by the Federal State Statistics Service on March 25.
Statistics show that the population of the Kemerovo region decreases every year.
Since 2014, the population decline is mainly due to a decrease in the number of urban residents – 135,000 people. The number of people in rural areas decreased by almost 48,000.
In 2023, the number of Kuzbass residents decreased by 47,993 people.
Previously, the Kemerovo region ranked second in the Russian Federation in terms of natural mortality in absolute terms.
Let us remember that the main factors of the current demographic situation are the excess of mortality over the birth rate and the migration of the region’s population.
