A majority of American voters are willing to vote for former President Donald Trump over President Joe Biden if a jury finds the former president guilty in the documents case, a Harvard Caps/Harris poll recently showed, Breitbart News reported on March 25th.
The poll asked respondents who they would vote for if a jury found Trump guilty. “In crimes related to the handling of secret presidential documents?” 54% said they would vote for Trump, while 46% would vote for Biden.
Meanwhile, 53% of voters said Trump would not be convicted of any alleged crimes, and another 54% said Trump’s problems with the law amounted to political persecution.
The poll surveyed 2,011 registered voters March 20-21. The survey authors did not provide any margin of error.
The survey comes after former special counsel Robert Gur stopped short of prosecuting President Joe Biden for mishandling classified documents.
Let us remember that in the case of the secret documents, Trump faces a maximum sentence of 450 years in prison if he is found guilty of the 40 charges presented by special prosecutor Jack Smith.
No trial date has been set after it was canceled in May. Trump wants the trial to be scheduled after the election. Smith insists the trial will take place in July. The judge overseeing the case also did not rule on Trump’s motion to dismiss the case.
