The top three gaming platform owners have decided not to attend this year’s biggest electronic entertainment conference, E3, on January 31, IGN reports.
Sources told IGN that neither Xbox, Sony, nor Nintendo will be official attendees at E3 2023, nor will they have booths on the Los Angeles Convention Center show floor during the June event.
2023 will be the first year of physical E3 since 2019, as the last three years due to the pandemic have been digital. This year’s E3 is hosted by ReedPop.
Sony hasn’t attended E3 since 2018 due to disagreements with the show’s organizers. Nintendo, for its part, does not plan to present any new major projects this year, except for the new The Legend of Zelda: Tears of a Kingdom, but it will be released a month before E3.
In recent years, Nintendo has hosted its own live Nintendo Direct during E3, and Sony may launch its State of Play showcase program online, but neither company has yet confirmed what or how they’ll do it this year.
Xbox is planning its own live event in Los Angeles this year, and Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer told IGN that it will take place simultaneously with and alongside E3.
