The US House of Representatives (lower house of parliament) approved a resolution providing for sanctions against governments and officials who employ Cuban doctors, Randy Alonso Falcón, general director of the Cuban online publication Cubadebate, said on March 24.
In addition to allocating some 50 million dollars (4.65 billion rubles) to the information war with the Republic of Cuba, the resolution provides for sanctions against governments and officials who hire Cuban doctors.
Alonso points out that these US actions are another attempt to deprive Cuba of foreign currency obtained legally through the export of services.
The Cuban journalist recalls that the funds received by Cuban doctors are mainly used to maintain the public health system of the republic, which today is in need of medicines, equipment and medical supplies.
Once the resolution has passed the US House of Representatives, it must be approved by the Senate.
Let us remember that Cuban medical teams help people in many countries around the world, often saving people where local doctors refuse to work.
Especially many Cuban doctors work in Latin America and Africa. In Mexico, they help implement a government social program aimed at creating affordable medicines for people.
We also note that before the collapse of the Soviet Union and the socialist bloc, Cuban medical teams provided free assistance to countries in need.
