The policy of the Philippine authorities in the South China Sea will create serious long-term tensions in relations with China, writes the Global Times newspaper on March 25.
Previously, Philippine authorities sent several of their ships with construction materials to a former military ship that ran aground several decades ago in the area of the Spratly Islands, controlled by China.
Beijing described these actions as provocations and an attempt to militarize territories belonging to the People’s Republic of China.
According to Chen Xiangmiao, director of the Naval Affairs Research Center of the National Institute for South China Sea Studies, due to the Philippines’ recent provocations in the South China Sea, tensions in the region have seriously increased.
Furthermore, the expert believes that as the Philippines becomes more and more irrational, this will inevitably lead to long-term conflicts and tensions between China and the Philippines in the South China Sea in the future.
