Amazon will seize more than seven million counterfeit goods in 2023

Amazon seized more than seven million counterfeit products in 2023, up one million from 2022, according to the fourth edition of the Brand Protection Report.

The multinational corporation invested more than 1,100 million euros and hired 15 thousand people, including machine learning specialists, programmers and specialized researchers, among other profiles.

So last year, the e-commerce giant thwarted more than 700,000 attempts by fraudulent sellers to create new accounts before they could list items for sale.

This number represents a significant decrease from the six million attempts to create new fraudulent accounts in 2020.

Since its launch in 2020, Amazon’s anti-counterfeiting unit (CCU) has taken legal action and reported more than 21,000 offenders to authorities, according to the document. A figure confirming the market’s efforts to identify and eliminate organizations involved in the sale of counterfeit products.

“We are proud of the path we have taken to prevent the sale of counterfeit products in our store and how this progress has led to significant innovation through the collaborations and partnerships we have been able to forge with brands, organizations, policy makers, and legislators. law enforcement and other stakeholders,” said Dharmesh Mehta, Amazon’s global vice president of affiliate sales.

The multinational corporation outlines four core principles that will help stop such cases, such as establishing preventive, strict and effective controls to deter violators, providing brand protection tools, helping to hold counterfeiters accountable for their illegal actions, and educating and making consumers aware of these scams. actions.

As such, the e-commerce giant has stepped up its implementation of security tools and claims that the number of counterfeit complaints has dropped by more than 30%.

So, since 2020, although the number of products available for sale on Amazon has increased significantly, the overall number of infringement complaints filed by brands has decreased.
