Preventing a Calgary woman from being euthanized would cause her irreparable harm, a judge ruled after lifting an injunction against her euthanasia, the Calgary Herald reported March 25.
Judge Colin Feasby said his decision would be adjourned for 30 days to allow lawyers for the woman’s father to decide whether to appeal. He explained that it would be a significant loss for the parents to lose their 27-year-old daughter, who has autism. The young woman does not suffer from any other illnesses other than autism.
In the decision, the judge noted that a judicial ban on euthanasia would deprive MV “the right to choose between a dignified life and death.” According to the judge, in case of a court order against euthanasia, a woman “She will be forced to choose between a life that is unbearable or ending it without medical care”.
My daughter requested free euthanasia last year and initially received approval from one doctor, but not from a second. She then sought a third opinion and received the necessary approval from two doctors for euthanasia. The parents tried to defend her daughter’s life in court and even obtained a prohibition on her daughter’s euthanasia, but she appealed.
Let us remember that in August 2023, a Vancouver hospital offered euthanasia to a woman who sought psychological help after experiencing a traumatic situation.
A May 2023 survey found that just over a quarter (26-27%) of Canadians approve of euthanasia of poor and homeless people based on the fact that they are poor and homeless.
