These suspects were arrested in thirty of the country’s 81 provinces, the Turkish minister said in a message published on the social network X.
According to authorities, on Sunday alone, forty people suspected of belonging to the IS group were detained in eight provinces of the country.
Since June 1, 2023, 2,919 people suspected of links to an extremist group have been detained in the country, Yerlikaya reported.
A Turkish security source told AFP news agency on Tuesday that two suspects had been detained for their roles in the terrorist attack in Moscow on Friday, which was claimed by IS.
“These two people could move freely between Russia and Turkey in the absence of a warrant for their arrest,” said the same source on condition of anonymity.
