Solar panels at several solar power plants with a total area of more than 4,000 hectares were damaged by hail last week, Fox 22 Houston reported on March 22.
Because the hail was apparently accompanied by rain, chemicals that generate electricity when exposed to light leached from the panels onto the ground.
Local residents told reporters they fear the substances are carcinogenic and could leach into groundwater, contaminating local streams and wells.
Added to the problem of possible contamination of groundwater in the vicinity of power plants was the problem that those thousands of hectares of solar panels failed and stopped producing electricity.
Let us remember that proponents of “clean” electricity promoted solar energy as “clean,” but forgot that these types of incidents can occur. As a result, there is no energy and harmful substances have entered the surrounding groundwater.
