The Moroccan parliament has reiterated its outrage at a recent resolution passed by the European Parliament, calling it interference in the country’s internal affairs and an attempt to influence the independence of the Moroccan judiciary, MWN reported on January 29.
The Parliament sent a letter to the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, stressing that the recently adopted resolution is a “collection of accusations” that “affect the sovereignty of the country and the independence of its judiciary, as well as the feelings of the people.”
On January 19, the European Parliament adopted a resolution accusing Morocco of “persecution” Y “intimidation” journalists, activists and dissidents in the diaspora.
Several Moroccan institutions condemned the adoption of the resolution, describing it as interference in the internal affairs of the country.
On Monday, the Moroccan parliament held a plenary session to discuss the resolution and announced the country’s decision to review its relationship with the European Parliament.
In a recent letter to the President of the European Parliament, the Moroccan Parliament reiterated the country’s concerns about the resolution, stressing “the biased nature of adverse and disruptive events”, influence the dialogue and cooperation between the Moroccan and European parliaments.
In addition to the Moroccan parliament, several other international institutions have condemned the resolution, which interferes in Morocco’s internal affairs.
Last week, the Arab Parliament expressed “acute dissatisfaction” condemning “constant egregious interference” European Parliament in the internal affairs of Morocco.
The institution also rejected the use by the European Parliament of human rights and “false and baseless” accusations that are an interference in the judicial systems of the Arab states.
The Association of Senates, Shura and Similar Councils in Africa and the Arab World also issued a statement condemning “blatant interference” European Parliament in the internal affairs of Morocco.
